The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Tuesday.

County Attorney Thomas Laehn gave a report. His office is handling 83 pending criminal cases, including about 20 that are casino jackpot fraud-related. He also commented on the Iowa House Study 126, which is Governor Kim Reynolds restructuring bill. Laehn spoke against part of the bill that would allow the state attorney general to take over any criminal case in any county at their discretion. Laehn said this would change how justice is administered in Greene County and undermines control of justice from county residents.

The Board then approved two Louis Dreyfus funding requests. One request was for $5,000 by the Scranton Alumni Association to be used toward an $80,000 project to rewire the electrical system and build a shelter for a generator for the community center and city hall. The other request was for $5,000 by the Greene County Fair Association to be used toward a $20,000 project to pave the areas north of the show ring and west of the Clover Cafe on the Greene County Fairgrounds.

The Board also approved the canvass of votes from last week’s special Grand Junction City Council vacancy election. The results remained unchanged with Dennis Jacobs defeating Spencer Kirk by one vote, 42-41.
