A federal lawmaker visited with several Greene County officials on a congressional visit Monday afternoon.
US Congressman Zach Nunn talked with some elected county officials including County Attorney Thomas Laehn, County Treasurer Katlynn Mechaelsen, County Recorder Deb McDonald and County Auditor Jane Heun. He talked about his role when he was speaking to county officials at the Greene County Courthouse.
“What I like about coming to county courthouses is it gives me an opportunity to talk to the people who are closest to the voters and try and serve with them. It gives me a good pulse on what’s happening. Our local electives are going to be the ones who are best placed to know what’s happening in each county.”
Nunn described what he learned after his discussions with county officials.
“The partisan nature that might happen in Washington, D.C. is not happening in counties across Iowa. And I think that’s not only refreshing, it should really be a model for what we take forth to do good work, particularly on policy, in Washington, D.C. You’ve got people out here whose first mission is to take care of the people who live in the community with them.”
This was Nunn’s first trip to Greene County on an official congressional visit since being elected to the US House of Representatives. Greene County was also the newest county to be included in the Third Congressional District following redistricting.
