The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.
During reports, County Zoning Administrator Chuck Wenthold said the Board of Adjustment has scheduled a hearing for March 16th to consider a conditional use permit for Alliant Energy to make improvements to an existing substation and move it from the city limits of Grand Junction to the rural portion as a stand alone project.
County Attorney Thomas Laehn also gave an update. He mentioned a meeting at the end of March will be with surrounding county attornies about the possibility of extending a current drug court that is in Webster County to include their counties with the settlement money from the federal opioid lawsuit. He said the Iowa court system has put a ban on creating more speciality courts, but Laehn thought that if they could expand an existing drug court and can pay for it, then court administration might entertain that idea.
County Treasurer Katlynn Mechaelsen told the Board she is going to receive another $50,000 installment from a Local Assistance Tribal Consistency Fund. She asked if she could apply the total $100,000 from those funds toward the improvements of the HVAC system in the courthouse. These funds could also be combined with the over $1.7 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds that have been designated for the courthouse HVAC and restroom improvements. The Supervisors agreed with that decision and are going to look into that project.
Supervisor Vice Chair Dawn Rudolph serves on the Greene County Board of Health and said they are beginning the process to hire a new public health director, with the pending retirement of current director Becky Wolf.
Then the Board approved Supervisor Dan Benitz as the alternate on the County Emergency Management Commission. They also approved the dental and vision renewal rates for county employees with the new dental rates that will be increasing by three-percent starting July 1st.
