Greene County will remain in Class 2A for the 2023 and ’24 high school football seasons. That information was released a few days ago by the Iowa High School Athletic Association. The Rams have gone 40-11 in the five seasons they’ve been in 2A, but numbers of participants have declined.
Caden Duncan is the head football coach at Greene County High School and he told Raccoon Valley Radio he believes numbers are on their way up. The coach said there were just five seniors on the team last Fall, including a foreign exchange student that had never played football. He believes the total number of players in grades 9-12 could increase into the 50’s this August, which would be 10-15 more than a season ago.
Also due to the small number of seniors for the ’22 season, much of the 2023 varsity team returns with experience off the 8-2 team that won a District title and advanced to the round of 16 in the playoffs.
