Last week the Iowa High School Athletic Association released classification information for the 2023 and ’24 football seasons. Greene County has a sharing program with Paton-Churdan in football and the Rams are the largest Class 2A program.

We take a look at 31 seasons of where the Rams have been assigned since District football began in Iowa in 1992. Over the decades, the Rams have gone back and forth between Class 2A and 3A, and because of where Greene County is located, they’ve traveled near and far. The first two seasons saw the Rams in the same 3A district with Forest City, Clear Lake, Boone, Hampton-Dumont, Nevada, Webster City, and Humboldt.

The past two years the Rams have been in a six team Class 2A district with Clarinda, Shenandoah, Red Oak, Clarke (Osceola), and Des Moines Christian.

From near the Iowa borders with Missouri, Nebraska, and Minnesota, to just down the road, the Rams have been assigned nearly everywhere to play district football. The 2023 and ’24 District football assignments are out and tomorrow we’ll talk about where the Rams fit in.
