Iowa has been in the national spotlight with some high profile Republicans coming through the state.
In less than one month, former United Nations Ambassador and former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis both made trips through Des Moines, while former President Donald Trump visited Davenport. While Haley and Trump have officially declared their candidacy for the Republican nomination for President, DeSantis is anticipated to do the same.
Iowa House District 47 Representative Carter Nordman (R-Panora) met Haley and DeSantis when they came to Iowa and he gave his opinion on what he thought of them.
“I’m going to do what all Iowans are going to do and meet all of the candidates that I can and base my decision off of that.”
Nordman says as caucus season warms up in Iowa, he’s happy that the Republican Party will continue to allow Iowa to be “the first in the nation” with its caucus and speaks to how important that is for individuals to get involved in the state.
“When candidates come here they can’t just buy the election, they can’t just spend a bunch of money. It’s not always about the candidate who has the biggest warchest. They have to get out and meet Iowans. They have to be asked tough questions, we really vet these candidates, and that’s what Iowans do best.”
Nordman was disappointed in the change that the national Democratic Party made to remove Iowa from being the first state in the country to have a voting system to choose what presidential Democratic candidate Iowans want.
