The Greene County High School Jazz Choir is heading to its postseason competition tomorrow.
Ram Jive has qualified for the Iowa Vocal Jazz Championships in Class 3A at Spirit Lake High School. Vocal Director Dave Heupel says they are going against seven other schools in Class 3A.
“The groups that are there, I think they’re going to be terrific, and we’ll hopefully get to watch a few also. I just know they’re all going to be top notch and we have to bring our best.”
Heupel points out that one of their goals for the year was to make it to IVJC and he talks about the group of kids that are in the ensemble.
“I think to start with they really have fun together, they’re really enjoyable, they really talk way too much, but at least they’re positive. They have great energy and they have fun. So that helps keep the group energetic, that and combined with they really sing in tune well. So their pitch is solid and centered, that’s a real plus.”
The other schools in Class 3A include two Center Point-Urbana ensembles, Glenwood, North Polk, Solon, Gilbert, and Mount Vernon.
