The month of March brings awareness to Kidney Cancer for risk reduction.

Dallas County Health Navigation Coordinator Ann Cochran says that Kidney Cancer isn’t a very commonly talked about disease but the amount of people being diagnosed is going up. Cochran points out that common symptoms include blood in urine, rapid loss of weight, back pain and tiredness. She also notes there are some risk factors that lead to Kidney Cancer.

“You’re more likely to get kidney cancer if you smoke and or if you’re overweight and have high blood pressure. And those are controllable factors. You can quit smoking. You can work on losing weight if you’re overweight. And that will help keep your high blood pressure under control.”

Cochran recommends anyone with symptoms or questions about Kidney Cancer to make an appointment with their clinic.
