West Central Valley and Adair – Casey / Guthrie Center will be traveling for the Iowa High School Musical Association’s Solo and Ensemble State Music Festival.

West Central Valley High School Music Director Joan Sweeney says that besides it being a chance to perform, it’s a chance to learn as well.

“It’s really an opportunity for students to just grow as musicians, either as individuals or just in the small ensemble setting. They get feedback from a state approved adjudicator, a judge, and it’s just a really good experience for them to get some feedback on how they’re doing, and on very specific musical elements.”

West Central Valley High School Band Director Nathan Huff tells Raccoon Valley Radio that his students are fairly excited for the chance to perform in a different setting as well.

“I know our flute and piccolo duet is very excited. As soon as we mentioned the possibility of signing up for this, they jumped at it right away, and were super excited to just play something with each other. They’re super close friends and just really wanted a chance to play something on their own.”

Performances will take place tomorrow at Madrid High School.
