Coming off a Most Valuable Athlete performance at the Missouri Valley Conference indoor track & field meet, Carter Morton of Jefferson and his U. of Northern Iowa teammates start the outdoor season this weekend at Wartburg College in Waverly. Morton, a 2020 Greene County High School graduate, is a decathlete outdoors, but the Wartburg meet, and many others, don’t have the decathlon, so at meets like this he typically is entered in some of the events that comprise the decathlon.
Morton’s Dad, Chad, is the head track & field coach of the Greene County boys, and he told Raccoon Valley Radio that Carter likes the challenge of doing many events. “He’s one of the healthiest on the team because he does so many things and uses so many muscle groups instead of concentrating on one event and using those muscles over and over, which can lead to injury.” Coach Morton added Carter added the triple jump late in the recent indoor season after never having competed in that event. He’s done it twice, and won it twice, including at the MVC indoor conference meet.
