An Iowa Supreme Court Justice made a stop and met with Perry High School students on Wednesday.

Justice Thomas Waterman met with the Perry Mock Trial Team along with the juniors and seniors in the performing arts center. Waterman was one of three justices appointed by former Iowa Governor Terry Branstad in 2011 and he discussed the latest case the court heard on Tuesday night called “State vs Auditor.” Justice Waterman then talked about other interesting cases the court has heard during his tenure. He told Raccoon Valley Radio that he hopes speaking to high schools like Perry creates interest.

“I think we owe it to the people of Iowa to be more transparent and give them the opportunity to see their supreme court in action.”

Also during Justice Waterman’s visit he took questions from the students. He says it wasn’t a surprise that the questions were good.

“Nearly all of my school visits, I’ve come away feeling even better about the future, that there are a lot of bright people who do care and that’ll be good for our country.”

Iowa Supreme Court Justice Christopher met with Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Senior Students on Tuesday.
