A Carroll woman was recently sentenced to probation for a January incident at Wild Rose Casino and Resort in Jefferson.
According to court documents, 36-year-old Jessica Baxter pled guilty to an aggravated misdemeanor for third degree fraudulent practices. She had a two year prison sentence suspended and was placed on probation for one year with the Boone and Greene County Probation Services. According to the Greene County Attorney’s Office both the prosecutor and defense attorney recommended probation for Baxter.
The charge stemmed from an incident on January 26th when Baxter was asked to claim a winning jackpot from a slot machine of $1,223. Baxter signed an IRS-W9 form, which certified under penalty of perjury to claim the winnings. However, Baxter fraudulently claimed the winnings for another person who owed money to the Iowa Department of Administrative Services Offset Program.
Baxter was ordered to pay over $1,500 in fines, surcharges, court-appointed attorney fees and court costs. As per the plea agreement, the Class D Felony for gambling-avoid setoff was dismissed.
