After having Tuesday’s scheduled track & field meet at Panorama High School in Panora called off due to threatening weather, Greene County sends its girls and boys to Van Meter today for a coed meet starting at 4:30 p.m.
Coach Derek Merk’s girls have had two indoor meets and two outdoors while Chad Morton’s boys’ squad has been outdoors for competition just once after competing three times indoors.
The Rams have more experience returning on the girls’ side and early performances bear that out, according to statistical website Bound Iowa. In Class 2A, Olivia Shannon has the fourth fastest 400 meter time, the fourth farthest long jump, and is number 12 in the 200 meter dash. Emma Hoyle sits fourth in the discus throw and Daniele Madsen has the tenth best shot put distance. In relays, the Rams are fifth in the 4 x 100, eighth in the 4 x 200, and tenth in the 4 x 400.
The lone boys’ event for the Rams ranking in the top 10 so far is the high jump where Lane Fields is tied for ninth place.
