The Perry boys soccer team bounced back Thursday night with an impressive 4-0 road win over North Polk. The Bluejays were shut out Monday night by ADM in the season opener 1-0. Jonathan Banuelos lit the spark for Perry, scoring a pair of first half goals to give Perry a 2-0 lead. Anthony Chavez added a penalty kick early in the second half and Sergio Sanchez finished the scoring with a brilliant score late in the game. The sniper cut across three defenders in the midfield and lasered a shot from 25 yards out. Chavez added an assist, while Tyler Gomez provided a first half helper.
Luis Castro was solid in net for the second straight game, stopping all 11 shots, including a penalty kick.
Perry coach Gary Overla was happy with the performance. “What a massive difference one game makes. North Polk had lost to ADM by one and Gilbert by one. Physically, they were comparable to ADM. We played extremely well.”
Perry improves to 1-1 and will play at home next Tuesday against Winterset and Thursday against Marshalltown.
