According to statistical website Bound Iowa, Greene County junior Gesser Gutierres, is among the top goal scorers in all of Iowa high school boys’ soccer. Gesser (pronounced Hesser) has nine goals for the 3-0 Rams and head coach Carl Behne. That ranks tied for fourth among all four classes of competition and tied for third in Class 2A, which Greene County will be in for the postseason.
Gesser scored five goals to start the season in Greene County’s 6-0 win vs. Boone, then added three more at West Marshall (State Center) in a 6-2 victory. His ninth goal came last Thursday when the Rams won 2-0 vs. Carroll High.
Gutierres will have two opportunities this week to add to his total when the Rams host Ballard (Huxley) tonight in Grand Junction, then again tomorrow in Carroll vs. Kuemper Catholic at the Kuemper Field House on the southeast side of town.
