The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.

Greene County Zoning Official and Environmental Administrator Chuck Wenthold told the Board the Board of Adjustment has scheduled May 4th at 6pm in the boardroom a public hearing for the conditional use permit for NationalGrid Renewables to install a 100-megawatt solar panel farm near Grand Junction. He added that the Iowa Utilities Board (IUB) has already approved the project permit, pending the conditional use permit approval from the county.

Riley Gibson from Summit Carbon Solutions gave an update. He said Summit has acquired 91.11-percent of voluntary easements in Greene County and they have paid $2.2 million for those easements. Across Iowa, Summit has 68.18-percent of easements voluntarily acquired for their underground carbon dioxide pipeline to carry the emissions from five Midwest states to an underground storage facility in North Dakota. Gibson also noted that the public hearing with the IUB has been scheduled for October.

The Board approved $5,000 for each of two fiscal years of Louis Dreyfus funds for an apartment renovation project in Churdan through the Highlander Corporation. The Board also approved the County Treasurer’s quarterly report of fees for January through March as presented and transferred $76,000 from the election fund to the general supplemental fund for the equipment recently arrived at the Greene County Courthouse.

The Board then held a discussion about the policy, as recommended by the Iowa Municipal Workers’ Compensation Association (IMWCA) for a seatbelt and restraint policy, and will consider approving the policy at a future meeting. Finally, they also discussed an ordinance for the Register’s Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI). The Board decided that for a for-profit business to be a food vendor in the unincorporated portions of Greene County, there would be a $400 fee, $100 for nonprofits and $1 for any child to sell food. The Board would also not allow any alcohol to be served by any vendor.
