The Perry School District at their latest Board meeting approved to move forward with an item to improve their student-athletes performance on the field or hardwood.
Superintendent Clark Wicks says they will be implementing the Englebert Training Systems (ETS) which is a sports performance program that looks at developing athletes basic athletic and biomechanical movements, strength techniques and deceleration protocols to maximize the potential of an athlete. Wicks speaks highly of this program and how it will change the dynamics of their activities.
“It’s going to provide, I think, a very up to date new approach, as well as taking other effective approaches to the physical and the psychological training to get unmatched speed, power deceleration and an energy system development movement for both boys and girls and not only for athletics, but we talk about cheerleading, we talk about dance.”
Perry High School Head Football Coach Tyler Hovey says that the ETS performance program will do an excellent job of bringing multi-sport athletes together to build team chemistry.
“I like the idea of our athletes continuously training together and continuing to build a team atmosphere outside of the football season so I’m very excited about the potential that ETS can bring into Perry Schools.”
The Perry School Board approved a three year agreement with the program that will cost $28,000 from the months of September through May and The Perry Youth Groups and Booster Club will partner with the school to cover the summer program. ETS started in Minnesota, and has over 24 ETS Performance Centers in the Midwest. Perry Community and Perry Schools will be the first ETS partnership in Iowa.
