With only a few weeks left in the school year, the Greene County Middle School students are getting ready to perform their musical concerts.

The 6th-8th Grade Spring Choir Concert will be on Tuesday, May 9th at 6:30pm at the middle school auditorium. 5-8 Vocal Music Instructor Brenda Roberts tells Raccoon Valley Radio the 95 student ensemble chose to perform songs from country, rock, broadway and pop. Roberts says since March, the students have been collaborating in small groups and then expanded into the larger group for the ultimate performance goal. She points out the students learned about concert etiquette as well as self confidence to sing in front of others.

The 5th graders will perform a mini-musical, called “Dig It: A Musical Tale of Ancient Civilizations” for John Jacobsen and Roger Emerson. Roberts says the 59 students will be traveling back to Ethiopia, Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece and Rome and they’ll sing songs in a variety of genres, including ragtime, swing, rock, ballad, and more. She notes that she’s been waiting to do this show when she had the right group to perform it. The concert will be on Monday, May 15th at 7pm at the middle school auditorium.

Both performances are free and open to the public.
