The Stuart Public Library is ready for the new month.
Rachel Majerus of the library says that some fun events are already underway. She explains that the scavenger hunt theme for May is “Star Wars,” in large part because of the fan celebrated holiday of “May the Fourth.” Majerus adds that she herself is a fan of the science-fiction series, and wanted to share the fun of the event, so there will be “Star Wars” themed items to search for, and even a word search.
Looking at future events that are coming up soon, the first is the plant swap on Saturday. Majerus tells Raccoon Valley Radio why the library chose to have the event.
“We did a seed exchange recently, and we had enough people that were interested in that that said, ‘You know what? Let’s do a plant exchange as well.’ And so we have a volunteer who’s going to come out and help put out some plants that the library has been growing.”
Majerus adds that the plant swap will begin at 10:30am. She explains that another event coming up is a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) class with the Guthrie County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach on bees and pollination at 1pm on Monday. All three events are free to attend, though for the STEM Class with the Extension, children 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
