The Greene County High School Music Department recently participated in one of the final statewide events of the year.
Choir Director Dave Heupel says the concert choir earned straight Division I-ratings at the Iowa High School Music Association Large Group Festival in Atlantic last Friday. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio the song selections he made this year really fit the group of kids very well.
“When we get to large group time, to me it’s our high point of the year. It’s where we get judged as a large ensemble on our improvement for the year. And I don’t give compliments very much, but on Thursday, the day before (the festival), I stopped and I said, ‘I think that’s the best sound you’ve made this year.’ First of all they were kind of shocked that I gave them a compliment, but I was just really happy where they were. I thought things were going to go pretty well Friday night and they did.”
The high school band earned a Division II-rating from the festival.
