There is an annual meeting happening this weekend that involves local people from Greene County.

The Raccoon River Watershed Association is holding its annual conference on Saturday in Des Moines. The topic is “Life in the Raccoon River Watershed: Prairie, Birds, Wildlife and the River” will include four programs. The opening presentation will be about the Tipton Prairie that is in Greene County. Drake University Botanist Thomas Rosburg is the speaker and will lead a virtual tour of the four-acre area.

Ray Harden will lead the next program about birds, Jim Pease will talk about wildlife along with the Raccoon River, and author Neil Hamilton, who has published two books, including “The Land Remains” and “The River Knows” as he shares his perspective of the Raccoon River. 

The 11-member RRWA Board includes three individuals from Greene County, including Chris Henning of Cooper, who is also going to make opening remarks at the conference; along with Bob Rye of Jefferson and Greene County Conservation Director Tanner Scheuermann of Rippey. The conference is free and open to the public, and it starts at 9am at Des Moines Area Community College campus building seven, room 170. Click the link below to register and to reserve a lunch.
