Veterans of Guthrie County and surrounding counties will have a chance to check out some resources next week.

Guthrie County Veterans Affairs Coordinator Beth Watson has set up a Veterans Resource Fair that will be held in Panora next week. She says that she has just short of 30 vendors that will be at the event, and is hoping for close to 150 people to come and see what services and goods can be provided. Watson tells Raccoon Valley Radio why she decided to set up the event.

“A lot of people talk about programs, they say they’re available and they’ll tell you the name of it, but this is a way to move that from talking about it to engaging with it and actually meeting these programs and these people that offer it. I wanted to move it from a conversation to an actual engagement, so that’s what we’re hoping to do. And anybody, surrounding counties, veterans, families, you know, we’re hoping that they’ll show up.”

Some of the vendors that will be at the event include local ones, like Lakeside Village and The New Homestead, and some from further away, like Honor Flight, Miracles for Heroes, and the VA Hospital in Des Moines will have nine individuals attending to cover several different types of healthcare needs. The Resource Fair will be held May 16th at Veterans Auditorium from 11am to 1pm.
