It’s National Correctional Officers Week, which highlights the jobs that jailers do.
The Greene County Sheriff’s Office has four full time and one part time employees for the county jail. Sheriff Jack Williams says the jailers work 12-hour shifts and their main responsibilities are to consistently monitor the inmates, carry out any inmate’s medical requests, provide three meals from the Greene County Medical Center, guide them to the exercise room in the basement and give them appropriate clothing for court hearings.
Williams points out of the five total jailers, one has over 15 years of experience, while two others have over ten years. He expresses his gratitude for his employees that work at the jail.
“(I’m) very appreciative. If we didn’t have them we would have to transport them elsewhere, which would mean we wouldn’t have officers on the road here in the county doing what they’re supposed to be doing, because they would be sitting in another county trying to get an inmate booked in.”
The jailers include Tressa Hatfield, Josh Derry, Kristal Morales, and Shane Monthei for full time and the one part timer is Krysty Melton.
