The Perry Lutheran Homes put together 450 greeting baskets to be sent to older adults all around Northern Dallas County on Thursday.
The community outreach event called “Project Deliver the Love,” which gathered 150 volunteers throughout the day to fill a basket full of fresh fruit, candy, devotionals and other items to be home-delivered to older adults living alone. Perry Lutheran Home Marketing Director Mollie Clark says that this outreach event targeted home-bound adults over the age of 70 in the communities of Perry, Adel, Minburn, Dallas Center, Granger and Woodward to make them feel loved and appreciated. Clark talks about the reaction they received from home-delivering these baskets.
“So the things I heard from some of the deliveries and I went on a few as well as just surprised at first, it’s kind of a bright spot in their day. They feel pretty special to be remembered and loved. And we sat down and chatted with some of the older adults that we’ve delivered to, and we’ve also had our volunteers get their contact information and make a plan to come visit them next week to pick up the basket and then to stay in touch. So that’s really the biggest purpose of this whole thing.”
Clark thanked all the community members, congregations, churches, service organizations and businesses that donated to this outreach project that allowed them to bring happiness and conversation to older adults.
