
The Greene County School Board met Wednesday night in regular session.
The Board approved a mowing rate of $15 per hour for two high school students that showed interest and they will be under the supervision of Sean DeMoss. Superintendent Brett Abbotts then presented the board members with certificates in honor of May being School Board Recognition and Appreciation Month.
During reports, high school construction instructor Kirk Davis said the construction class is almost done with their portion of the storage shed project south of the high school. He mentioned having next year’s class helping to build a new restroom area at Linduska Field. The Board agreed to pursue cost estimates for the project.
Next, the Board approved six student driving permit requests and one fundraising request as presented. They also approved a sharing agreement with Paton-Churdan for bowling, an out of state travel request for Greene County FFA to go to the National FFA Convention in November in Indianapolis, Indiana; the 2023-24 agreement with Region XII Western Iowa Transit System with no increase in rate, and a change in the supplemental pay schedule to switch from an assistant music teacher for the middle and high schools to the elementary school.
Additionally, the Board approved a purchase not to exceed $65,000 for recess equipment for the middle school, using the cashless option with Bound for all events and activities in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference starting next school year, approving the last of the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funds of $70,000 for new carpet in portions of the elementary and middle schools, as well as heat pumps, and a floor scrubber. Finally, they approved additional summer project purchases of $23,950 from the Physical Plant and Equipment Levy for a new mower and demolition of some buildings behind the middle school, as well as replacing a walk-in cooler at the elementary and repairing another walk-in cooler at the middle school for over $54,000 from the nutrition fund.
