The stakes will be high tonight for the Perry soccer program as the Bluejays host Glenwood in a Class 2A Substate 8 final at Dewey Field. The winner advances to the state tournament next week. Perry earned the top seed and the right to host tonight’s big game thanks to a strong surge late in the season. On April 29th, Perry was sitting at 4-5 on the season and struggling to find the combination. Injuries and off the field issues contributed to the slow start. Perry started to get healthy in May and the results started to reflect the high expectations coming into the season. The Bluejays went on to win six of their final seven games to earn a spot in tonight’s final.
Glenwood enters tonight with an 11-3 record and a second place finish in the Hawkeye 10 behind Council Bluffs Lewis Central. The Rams only losses this season were to 3A programs Lewis Central, Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln and ADM in overtime. Caden Johnson leads the team with 68 points and 28 goals while Junior Cameron King has produced 40 points this season with 17 goals.
You can listen to the action tonight on KDLS, 1310 AM, 94.3 FM and 99.7 FM and raccoonvalleyradio.com. Shawn Kenney and former Perry soccer star Pat Ferusca will be on the call.
