The Perry softball team used some late 7th inning magic Wednesday night to rally to defeat West Marshall 7-3 in Heart of Iowa softball action from State Center.  Trailing 2-1 entering the 7th inning, Perry scored six times and sent 11 batters to the plate to take the lead and celebrate their second conference road win in as many tries.  Taylor Atwell started the one out rally with a single followed by Sydney Barkley’s bunt which was misplayed by West Marshall.  After a Kathryn West ground out, Perry went on a two out rally with the next 6 batters reaching safely.  Lydia Olejniczak walked to load the bases with two outs and then five consecutive two out hits from Karagyn Whelchel, Ava Sholley-Devilbliss, Emmalee Bell, Maci Tunink, and Kalley Whelchel sealed the dramatic come from behind victory.  Bell’s double in that decisive 7th proved to be the game winner.

Tunink settled down after allowing two runs on three hits in the first inning.  The junior allowed only five hits the rest of the way and finished the night with 3 strikeouts.

Perry improves to 2-0 in Heart of Iowa action and will celebrate the home opener this Friday night against Roland Story.  You can listen to the game on KDLS and raccoonvalleyradio.com.
