Gilbert and Greene County will meet in the quarterfinals of the Class 2A High School Boys’ State Soccer Tournament on Tuesday, May 30 at 1:20 p.m. All State action takes place at the Cownie Soccer Complex on the southeast side of Des Moines. The winner takes on either Bishop Heelan Catholic (Sioux City) or Center Point-Urbana on Thursday June 1 in a semifinal. Assumption, Davenport meets Perry, and Nevada takes on Webster City in the other two quarterfinals on Tuesday. The Rams, Blue Jays, and Cubs are all from the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference.

Gilbert is the number 3 seed with the Rams seeded sixth. The Tigers are 18-2 with their only two losses to 2A State qualifier Bishop Heelan, and 3A qualifier Dallas Center-Grimes. Gilbert has scored 73 goals while allowing just six all season long.

The Rams have scored 88 goals and given up 22. The Greene County offense features two players with a combined 62 goals in junior Gesser Gutierres and senior Jose Velazco. Gutierres is the leading goal scorer in 2A with 42 and Velazco has scored 20 times.

Tuesday’s Greene County vs. Gilbert matchup will be broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. with coverage just after 1 p.m. and kickoff at 1:20 p.m.
