Greene County went 1-1 at the Ogden high school Bob Morgan Softball Classic on Saturday. Coach Tom Kennedy’s Rams were on the short end vs. Gilbert and the Rams won against the host Bulldogs.The first week of the season wrapped up with Greene County winning four of the six games played, their best start since 2016, when the Rams began with a 6-2 mark and finished 17-13. The Rams had five straight losing seasons after that until the 2022 team went an even .500 at 13-13.
In game one vs. Gilbert, the Rams lost 4-3. Emma Hoyle took the pitching loss. Two of Gilbert’s three runs were earned. She allowed eight hits and four walks while striking out three batters. Hoyle hit a solo home run vs. the Tigers and Alexa Peters collected three singles. Chanlyn Cunningham doubled while Olivia Shannon had a single and run batted in. Becca Anderson, Payton Kokenge, and Paige Teeples also singled.
Greene County topped Ogden 7-5 with Daniele Madsen recording her first varsity pitching victory. She went all seven innings, allowing 10 hits, three walks, and four batters hit with pitches. She fanned the Bulldogs four times. Hoyle had a double and one RBI while Emma Stream and Kokenge had two runs batted in, and Cunningham knocked in a run. Shannon, Peters and Kokenge each had a pair of base hits. The Rams trailed 3-0 after one inning, but rallied with single runs in the second and third, then pulled ahead with a five run fifth.
