The Greene County Historical Society will have its monthly program for June coming up later this week.
This Friday Mikki Schwartzkopf will be pulling back the curtain on a piece of history relating to a Civil War-era cannon that is located in Greene County. She will talk about how the weaponry came to Jefferson, if it was ever used, and where it’s currently located. Schwarzkopf has been a guest speaker in previous programs about the women’s suffrage movement, how Chautauqua Park got its namesake and the county’s involvement in World War II.
Friday’s free program begins at 12:45pm at the First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson. Lunch will be served at noon and the cost to reserve a meal is $10. Call 515-386-4408 by tomorrow to reserve a lunch.
