A Greene County resident was recently given an honor by the local FFA chapter.

Mike Richards was recognized by Greene County FFA as the Honorary Chapter Member. According to Greene County FFA, Richards devoted several hours to helping Kaitlin Fields practice Ag Sales that advanced to districts and was on the auditing committee for the chapter’s treasurer book that went onto the state contest. Additionally, Richards has served on the advisory council for the crop plot committee for a few years to help students figure out what seed to plant and give new ideas. 

Richards has an extensive background in agriculture. He has a bachelor’s degree in agriculture education from Northwest Missouri State University and owned Richards Ag Supply for 19 years. In education, Richards was the agriculture instructor and FFA advisor at Clarion-Goldfield High School for four years, an associate agriculture instructor and a Professional Agriculture Student Advisor with Iowa Central Community College for 14 years and worked in the career academy for two years. Richards also helps the high school agriculture students and FFA members with Raelyn Harris’ classes. He currently works at Home State Bank as the land manager. 

Richards is married to Heather and they have seven children.
