This is just the fifth season of Greene County boys’ high school soccer, and Coach Carl Behne and assistant Chad Black have seen their teams accomplish many things in that time period. Included on the list is a third State Tournament appearance, which is tomorrow at the Cownie Soccer Complex on the southeast side of Des Moines. Something the Rams haven’t done as a program yet is hang a loss on Gilbert, and the Tigers are the first round opponent for the Rams at 1:20 p.m. tomorrow.

The Tigers are 4-0 all-time vs. the Rams with wins by scores of 1-0, 2-1, 4-0, and 1-0. Ram teams have had some potent offenses since the inception of the program, but just one goal has been scored against Gilbert in four previous meetings. The 2023 Rams have scored 88 goals and given up 202. Gesser Gutierres is the highest scorer of goals in Class 2A with 42 and Jose Velazco has 20 goals to his name. Gilbert’s defense has allowed just six goals all season, a key reason to the Tigers sporting a record of 18 wins and only two losses. The Rams are 13-4.

Tomorrow’s coverage on KG98 and streaming on raccoonvalleyradio.com starts just after 1 p.m.
