The Gilbert Tigers advanced to the Thursday afternoon Class 2A Boys’ State Soccer Tournament semifinals by shutting out Greene County 5-0 on Tuesday afternoon in Des Moines at James Cownie Soccer Complex. The Rams end the 2023 season with 13 wins and five losses while the Tigers move on at 19-2. Gilbert has allowed just six goals this season and the Rams came in averaging more than five goals per contest, yet were blanked for just the second time this season. Nevada shut the Rams out in Nevada 3-0 earlier this month. The Cubs, the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference champions, won 1-0 in their quarterfinal vs. Webster City to advance to meet Assumption, Davenport on Thursday. The Knights were 2-0 winners over Perry. The Heart of Iowa had Perry, Nevada, and Rams all in the 2A quarterfinals.

Reserve Trystan Holtan scored three first half goals and Roman Kruckenburg added two goals, one in each half for the Tigers.

The Rams have only played as their own program for five seasons and three have resulted in State Tournament trips. Iowa City Regina topped Greene County in 1A first round play both in 2019 and ’21.
