On Tuesday, the Greene County School Board formally approved the resignation agreement for high school principal Brian Phillips.
According to the agreement, Phillips’ employment contract was set to end June 30, 2024, but both Phillips and the School District mutually agreed for him to resign as principal effective June 30th, with his last day in office work being on May 26th. The agreement also stipulates that Phillips will be on paid administrative leave from May 27th-June 30th.
The agreement also requires the district to pay Phillips his base salary of $118,200, which will not include Iowa Public Employees Retirement System (IPERS) wages for the next contract year that ends on June 30, 2024. The district will also pay Phillips’ COBRA family premiums for medical, dental and vision insurance through June 30, 2024 and pay $19,341 for 90 days of sick leave that he’s accumulated. Superintendent Brett Abbotts has provided Phillips for a positive letter of reference on May 26th that “upon condition that said letter shall be used by Phillips solely for the purpose of securing future, alternative employment outside of the District.”
The agreement goes on to say that the resignation is not in lieu of termination. The Board held a closed session on Tuesday, according to Iowa Code. After the 17 minute closed session, the Board voted 4-0 to accept the resignation agreement. Board Vice President Cindi Daubendiek was absent from the meeting.
