The Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association has released All-State selections for the recently completed season and Greene County has one first team selection and another on the second unit. Junior Gesser Gutierres was named to the Class 2A first All-State team and senior Jose Velazco was a second team pick.
Gutierres scored 42 goals in helping the Rams to a 13-5 record and a berth in the 2A State tournament. Velazco scored 20 goals as the duo teamed up to make a powerful 1-2 scoring punch for Coach Carl Behne’s Rams. Gutierres led all class 2A players in the number of goals scored and was the second highest goal scorer overall. Velazco tied for tenth in goals scored by a 2A player.
The Rams have had their own soccer program for five seasons and in three of those Greene County has qualified for State Tournaments.
