Greene County, ranked number 14 in Class 3A, and West Marshall (State Center) played Heart of Iowa Activities Conference softball in Jefferson on Monday night with the Rams winning by a 2-1 score. Coach Tom Kennedy’s team is now 14-5 overall and 10-1 in the conference while the Trojans sport a 10-11 record on the season and are 4-7 in conference play.

The Rams broke a scoreless tie with two bottom of the sixth inning runs while the Trojans only hit of the game was a Cierra  Randall home run leading off the seventh inning. Emma Hoyle fanned the Trojans 16 times and Randall was the only batter to reach base. Hoyle had retired the first 18 Trojans, then got three outs in a row after the homer. Hoyle has 31 strikeouts to no walks and no hit batters in her last two outings, both one run Greene County victories.

Greene County’s offense has scored just four runs in its last three games combined, two of those being victories. The Rams had six hits with three of them in the sixth inning. Alexa Peters had a one out single, followed by a run scoring Hoyle triple and Emma Stream’s RBI double.

Tonight, Greene County is home in Jefferson with non-conference opponent Manson-Northwest Webster with varsity first pitch set for 7:30 p.m.
