A Carroll woman was recently sentenced to probation for an incident at Wild Rose Casino and Resort in Jefferson.

According to court documents, 48-year-old Dawn Miller pled guilty to a Class D Felony for passing a winning wager to another person. She had a five year prison sentence suspended and was placed on probation for two years with the Iowa Department of Corrections.

The charge stemmed from an incident at the casino on January 26th. Miller won a $1,223 jackpot on a slot machine and asked 36-year-old Jessica Baxter of Carroll if she would claim the jackpot for her. Baxter claimed the winnings and filled out an IRS-W9 form. A Division of Criminal Investigation agent reviewed the video surveillance and saw that Miller won the jackpot and owed over $1,310 to the state of Iowa through the Iowa Department of Administrative Services Offset Program.

Baxter was also sentenced to probation for one year for her role in the incident. Court documents show that Miller was also ordered to pay over $1,200 in fines, surcharges, court-appointed attorney fees and court costs. As per the plea agreement, Miller had the other charge of an aggravated misdemeanor dismissed.
