The Greene County School Board met Wednesday evening in regular session.

The Board formally approved Karen Shannon to be the new high school principal with a modified contract with $90,000 for her first year. Under old business, the Board approved an asbestos removal bid from Environmental Property Solutions for $47,350 for the South Grade/former Greene County Early Learning Center, to be completed by the end of August. Additionally, the Board discussed an initial proposal for new restrooms at Linduska Field. Following the discussion, further designs were needed before approval.

Under new business, the Board approved one school driving permit for Isaac Karber and one fundraiser request for the high school football team, along with an out of state travel request for the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) students and sponsors to travel to Denver, Colorado this July. They also approved a $700 bid from the non-profit Iowa Gardening for Good to remove both greenhouses, the 8-by-12 foot shed and some equipment from the aquaculture building at the middle school, as well as purchasing eight new Automatic Electronic Defibrillators from Stryker for $15,625 from the Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL) funds.

The Board then approved adding four additional hours to the high school calendar for next year to earn the Carnegie credit and will eliminate two professional development Mondays and eliminate seminar to return to normal instruction. The Board also approved the first reading and waived the second reading for a revised board policy on objectives for equal educational opportunities for students, before finally approving Laura Marshall as the new board secretary and sworn her in with the retirement of Brenda Muir at the end of this month.
