
Perry picked up their second straight win in as many nights Wednesday, defeating Greene County 3-2 in Heart of Iowa action. Owen Myers tossed the complete game in earning the victory scattering four hits and allowing no earned runs. Greene County starter Noah Hinote was equally impressive allowing only one hit on the night in six solid innings.
Perry scored a run in the first inning on their only base hit of the night when Fausto Beato singled up the middle scoring Drake Levan. Perry tacked on two more runs in the fourth inning. Beato started the frame with a hit by pitch while Kaelan Davis reached on an error to give Perry runners at the corners. The Bluejays dialed up a double steal, scoring Beato and extending the lead to 2-0. Davis was brought home by a Geren Kenney RBI ground ball.
The Rams made it exciting in the top of the seventh inning. After Myers retired the first two batters, he hit both Adam Bills and Matthew Hovick. Crew Connor reached on Perry’s only error of the night when the ground ball got by the infield allowing Bills to score. Lane Fields followed with a RBI hit to cut the deficit to 3-2. Myers ended the game when he enticed a ground ball out off the bat of Camden Jacobs.
Myers struck out five in improving his record to 2-2 while Hinote falls to 2-3 on the season. The Bluejays were without their Head Coach Michael Craig who fell ill during the game.
Perry improves to 6-13 and 4-6 in HOI while the Rams slide to 2-16 and 1-9 in conference play. Both teams leave the conference Friday night with Greene County hosting Carroll while Perry travels to Stuart for a game with West Central Valley.
