The Guthrie Center and Adair – Casey School Boards met in regular session last week.

Adair – Casey / Guthrie Center Superintendent Josh Rasmussen tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the meeting started with some results from the Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP) for the students of the districts.

“We received some ISASP scores for our district, and just a lot of positive, a lot of growth was seen in the areas of our reading, our literacy and our math scores. So we went through all the data from our buildings, and every building saw substantial growth.”

Rasmussen mentions that to finish the joint session, the Boards approved the superintendent’s contract and 2023-24 student fees, with only one fee being raised from the previous year. Adults eating lunch at any of the buildings in the district will have a $4.84 lunch fee for their meal, which follows the government rate.

Afterwards the Guthrie Center School Board met in session, and approved the resignations of preschool associate Peggy Dentlinger, junior high cross country coach Rebecca Diemer, high school secretary Nellie Reinhart and elementary paraeducator Clista Mozingo. They also approved contract recommendations and letters of assignment for extra duty contracts, spring coaching recommendations, new high school and junior high art teacher Wright Lawton, drivers education teacher Shawn Danker, and special education teacher Eric Coop.

The Board then approved milk and bread bids, SU Insurance and equipment breakdown insurance and technology purchases. Rasmussen says the Board decided it was time to update some of the TV’s that the district has, making it easier for teachers to share what is on their laptops with the class for teaching purposes. To finish off the meeting, the Board rejected bids for replacement of the three air handling units that need repaired, as they came in much higher than what was budgeted for.
