
Dallas Center-Grimes baseball qualified for the state tournament for the first time since 2020 on Wednesday.
The Mustangs defeated the Waukee Northwest Wolves in the substate region 8 championship game by a final score 8 to 5 in seven innings. Dallas Center-Grimes would get big performances at the plate from Eli Rupp hitting a bases clearing double as he went 2-for-4 at the plate with three runs batted in and Trevor Hamil went 3-for-4 with one run batted in.
Hamil started the game pitching 2 2/3 innings surrendering five runs, four earned runs and striking out three. Keaton Fenn came in as a relief pitcher and pitched 2 1/2 innings allowing one hit, one earned run and one strikeout. Then Tate Perrin closed the door going 2 innings allowing one hit and no runs. Perrin grabs the save and Fenn got the win on the mound. Dallas Center-Grimes moves to a record of (30-6) and will face (26-11) Dowling Catholic at 2pm on Tuesday, July 18th at Duane Banks Baseball Stadium for the state quarterfinal game.
