Perry seniors Gavin Hegstrom and Juan Hernandez have played a lot of games together throughout the years. That number will grow this fall when both players report to the Simpson football team for summer workouts. The two Bluejays were four year teammates on Perry’s football and baseball squads. Hegstrom battled through injuries his sophomore and junior years to stay healthy his final season at tight end and linebacker while Hernandez provided Perry with speed and toughness at running back before his season was cut short with an injury.
They also represented two thirds of Perry’s starting outfield that Head Coach Michael Craig will have to replace next summer. Both seniors were recognized yesterday at the End of Season banquet held at Progressive Field.
Hegstrom is preparing to play linebacker at Simpson while Hernandez is being looked at as a defensive back.
