A Scranton resident was recently honored with a statewide award.

Mike Holden earned the Chef’s Choice Award for the annual Iowa Cattlemen’s Association Carcass Challenge. This competition showcases and evaluates a producer’s beef cattle genetics, feedyard management and continuous operation improvement. Holden’s steer won the award out of 79 steers and the Chef’s Choice Award signifies the most economically efficient steer with the genetic potential of individual animals to produce the safest, most nutritional and most desirable food product possible.

The award was given at the annual ICA Carcass Challenge banquet in Ames last month.
