The topic of farmland leasing will be discussed at a meeting at the Adair County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach.

The meeting will be July 27th and begin at 9am, and registration to attend is $20. During the two and a half hour session, participants will cover the Farm Bill update, resources available through ISU and other sources, current cash rental and land value survey results, tenant/landlord communications, how to determine fair rent rates for 2024 and legal aspects of farmland leasing.

By understanding these topics, farmers and landowners will be able to find a rent price that works for both parties and understand the other side’s perspective and issues, along with making sure that both parties understand what a leasing contract means and does for them. ISU Farm Management Specialist Alexis Stevens says this is important, as more and more landowners in Iowa are not farmers, or aren’t able to do the farming themselves, and land prices are rising to levels that new farmers are unable to purchase land.
