With August right around the corner, one fall time sport is starting up for a youth organization.

Football registration is going on now with the Greene County Youth Athletic Association. GCYAA President Travis Warnke says there are two leagues, including flag football for 3rd and 4th graders and modified tackle football for 5th and 6th graders. He points out safety is always their number one concern and he explains how they address that through the 5th and 6th grade program.

“The way we’re doing tackle football now and controlling the weight limits of when they can run, making sure we’re teaching them heads up football, things like that. We’re making them safer for when they get into the high school and the middle school programs. So we’re starting to instill that right away.”

The registration fees are $50 for flag football and $150 for modified tackle football. There is a $10 discount for an additional player from the same family. GCYAA offers scholarships for the children that without the financial assistance would not be able to participate in either program and scholarships will only cover the registration cost unless the registration fee includes uniforms and other equipment.

The deadline to sign up is August 4th. Practices will begin in August and games on Sundays start in September with the Central Iowa Football League. Click the link below to register.
