The Iowa Girls Coaches Association released its 2023 All-State teams in softball last week and Greene County had two players honored. Emma Hoyle was a Class 3A first team pitcher and Olivia Shannon was an outfielder on the second team. Both are graduated seniors.

Hoyle talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about the work she’s put in to get to this level. “I play softball basically all year ’round. I play spring ball, I play fall ball, and in the winter I go in every week and I pitch for about an hour and just work on all of my movement balls and placements. I just put in a lot of work.”

What she does for softball is in addition to playing basketball and being a thrower on the track & field team. Hoyle was named the Female Ram of the Year for the recently completed school year. She plans on continuing her education and playing softball at Iowa Central Community College in Ft. Dodge.
