Recently former President Donald Trump was indicted for his alleged involvement with events on January 6, 2021.
It’s alleged that Trump illegally and unconstitutionally tried to keep the results of the 2020 election from being certified. US Senator Joni Ernst shares her thoughts on the indictment.
“So as I look at this latest indictment, it just really doesn’t seem to be a lot of substance there. And Jack Smith, he will have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that President Trump did all of these things as outlined in the indictment. And I think he’s got a big uphill battle. This, to me, seems very politically motivated.”
Ernst says that in several of her recent stops on her 99 County Tour, she’s heard from several constituents that there seems to be two different standards of justice being shown. She agrees, saying that there seems to be one system of justice for those named Trump, and a completely different system for those whose last name is Biden. Ernst shares with Raccoon Valley Radio why she doesn’t believe Trump did what the indictment claims.
“That’s the difference is if people have done something, you have to be able to prove it, to show it. You can’t just say somebody did this. You have to be able to prove it, and so far in my mind, they have not proven it.”
Ernst adds that to change her mind, she would have to see some solid evidence, which she says just hasn’t been present so far. President Trump is currently facing three different indictments as he campaigns for the 2024 election.
