The Adel Aquatic Center will be trying a new event to go along with this weekend’s Sweet Corn Festival activities.

Aquatic Center Supervisor Romana Dillinger says that they will have their first ever “Corn Dive,” at 6pm on Friday. Dillinger explains they will have plastic pieces of corn to submerge in the pool  for children to dive and look for the special marked ear for a chance to win prizes. She mentions that their attendance dips during the Sweet Corn Festival and this is a way to draw people to the pool.

It’s going to be exciting. I think it’s going to be really neat to watch the kids surface dive down to get the corn and stuff the water. The deepest part of the water in that area would be five feet. So anywhere from three to five feet, they’d be diving down to get corn. So we’ll have it periodically spaced so that kids of all ages and abilities will have that opportunity to try and retrieve an ear of corn.”

The prizes will include season pass and swim lesson certificates, or concession stand vouchers for the 2024 aquatic season. The event will be free and tailored to kids from ages five to 14.
