
A Churdan man was recently sentenced to probation for theft.
According to court documents, 63-year-old Richard Fay pled guilty to a lesser charge of a serious misdemeanor for third degree theft. He was sentenced to one year of probation with the Iowa Department of Corrections.
The charge stemmed from an investigation by the Greene County Sheriff’s Office on August 3, 2022. United Bank of Iowa claimed Fay’s account had a negative $3,974 balance and he made several fraudulent deposits that started on May 20, 2022 and the last transaction happened on June 3rd.
Fay was also ordered to pay a $855 civil penalty. As per the plea agreement, Fay’s original charge of a Class D Felony for second degree theft was amended to the serious misdemeanor charge.
