The final piece of funding for a project in Jefferson has been put in place.

The Jefferson Municipal Airport is looking to construct a 100-foot by 100-foot hangar, which the project was approved last month by the Jefferson City Council for $1,190,028. After two Federal Aviation Administration grants that totaled a little over $900,000 were approved, City Administrator Scott Peterson says the project has also received an Iowa Department of Transportation State Aviation Program grant of $262,500. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio this DOT grant allows the project to be completed with its alternatives.

“It had to do with some upgrades that we were looking at and it had to do with different types of doors, and how far out the concrete aprons would go. So it does add some really nice amenities to the project and makes it very useful and really top notch facilities at the airport.”

Peterson adds the local share of the entire project is now below what was originally budgeted and he anticipates construction with the contractor, Jensen Builders, sometime later this year as weather permits.
